OUR ORIGINS
LadyChai is a time-honored Beijing restaurant, celebrated for its secret family recipe and traditional-style braised beef that has been passed down through four generations.
The story begins in 1888, when Madam Wang Chai—a Muslim woman whose family had long lived in the capital—created a unique recipe for braised beef. Even as a child, she helped prepare the dish at home, which soon became a favorite gathering place for neighbors seeking an authentic flavor.
ABOUT US
A CENTURY OF LEGACY
A century later, in 1988, her son revived the recipe to commemorate its 100th anniversary and opened the first “风味斋便餐馆(Fengwei Zhai ).” From beef and side dishes to herbs and spices, every ingredient was carefully chosen. Guided by his mother’s teachings, he often reminded others: “When it comes to food, there’s no room for sloppiness.” Unsurprisingly, the canteen thrived from day one and has remained bustling for nearly 40 years.
In memory of his mother, he later added the family name “Chai” to “Flavour Zhai,” giving rise to what is now known as LadyChai.
